What is a STS Extended Warranty?
A Cadillac STS service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs of services. Most consumers call this a "Cadillac STS Extended Warranty", however a Cadillac STS service contract is not a extended warranty as defined by federal law. The separate and additional cost distinguishes a service contract from a Cadillac warranty. A General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) may be arranged at any time and always costs extra; a Cadillac STS factory warranty comes with a new Cadillac STS and is included in the original price of the vehicle.

STS Extended Warranties - Alternative Provider
Many third party websites offer protection plans that they call STS extended warranties, these too are not to be confused with a warranty. Their is only one factory backed protection plan, namely the GMPP - General Motors Protection Plan, in which is not a warranty at all, it is a service contract with a promise to perform (or pay for) mechanical breakdown. Many consumers feel more comfortable with the convenience and affordability of a factory backed protection plan. However, there are alternative STS extended warranty providers. You should investigate your options before choosing your extended protection plan.
STS Factory Warranty:
New Vehicle Limited Warranty on STS vehicles registered in the U.S.A. are covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first (some GM products may have additional coverage). The complete vehicle is covered, including tires, towing to your nearest Cadillac STS dealership, and cosmetic corrosion resulting from defects. Repairs will be made to correct any vehicle defect, and most warranty repairs will be made at no charge. In addition, rust-through corrosion will be covered for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). See your Cadillac STS dealer for details.
STS are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your Cadillac STS dealer for terms of this limited warranty.
STS's and their components are assembled or produced by different operating units of General Motors, its subsidiaries, or suppliers to Cadillac worldwide. General Motors sometimes find it necessary to produce STS vehicles with different or differently sourced components than originally scheduled. Since some options may be unavailable when your vehicle is assembled, General Motors suggests you verify that your STS includes the equipment you ordered and that, if there were changes, they are acceptable to you.
STS are equipped with engines produced by Cadillac Powertrain or other suppliers to Cadillac worldwide. The engines in Cadillac products may also be used in other Cadillac makes and models.
An Important Note About Alterations and Cadillac Warranties
Installations or alterations to the original equipment vehicle (or chassis) as distributed by General Motors are not covered by the General Motors New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The special body company, assembler, equipment installer, or upfitter is solely responsible for warranties on the body or equipment and any alterations (or any effect of the alterations) to any of the parts, components, systems, or assemblies installed by Cadillac. General Motors is not responsible for the safety or quality of design features, materials, or workmanship of any alterations by such suppliers.
